As an instructor and creator of instructional media, one of the most challenging realities of teaching technology is the ever changing landscape. While a software user might feel somewhat annoyed that a program or application has changed so drastically as to be almost unrecognizable, an instructor has an additional challenge. Not only do I have to learn the new software (enough to be able to teach it), but I almost always have to rewrite instructions or rerecord audio and video tutorials in order to stay current. If the update / upgrade is minor, such as a feature-addition, I can sometimes add to my tutorials by creating supplemental or additional material such as text or extra videos. BUT, when the software has been heavily overhauled, as is the case with the recent Snapseed update, I have no other choice but to create an entirely new video or entirely new audio to teach the new software. This is a double edged sword. I LOVE upgrade and updates. In general, updated software improves upon features and capabilities. Having written that, creating new videos, audio or text to keep up with the ever changing tech landscape is a Royal Pain!
3 months ago, I recorded a video on “How to Edit Photos using Snapseed”. It was rather well received and I think it helped a lot of people understand the basics of using the app. I love Snapseed. It is one of the BEST photo editing apps out there. It’s powerful, full of features, relatively easy to use and … FREE! Well the effort and content that I poured into that video has recently become obsolete since the recent release of Snapseed 2.0! ARGH!
Okay, I’m over it now. No, really I am …
Below is Part 1 of my most recent (until they come out with another version) tutorial using Snapeed.
Snapseed is designed to be used on small displays and controlled with one finger
Part 1 covers:
- Stacks
- Histogram
- Tools
- Tune Image
- Overview of the interface
- Vignette Tool
- How “stacks” work
- Brush tool to mask in effects
- How to save

Once again Sonny you taught me something. I have been using Snapseed for a while but I haven’t tried it since the new version was released. Wow this app is fantastic. I can’t want to dive into it again. Thanks for taking the time to school me.
You’re welcome Mark. Stay tuned, I’ve got another short tutorial on Snapseed 2.0 in the works …
I didn’t have Snapseed 1.0, but I just got 2.0. Your tutorial once again was very helpful, and motivational too!
Awesome! You’re gonna like it. It’s a very powerful editing app. Keep on the lookout, I’ve already recorded a Part #2 and will post soon.
Hey Sonny.
Awesome video. Great work brother. You make it look easy. Given that we are coming into the holiday weekend, I plan on shooting with my phone and my T3.
Where is Part 2?:-)
Hey Brian! OK, just finished Part 2 and just now posted it!
Sonny,
Second time watching this video. Really like the photo editor! Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome Bill! It really is a pretty powerful photo editor and you can’t beat the price!
